Danny Kostyshin - An Online Retrospective & Some New Perspectives for the New Millennium

I used commercial, low fire colour glazes and then applied the raku process of fire, and carbon from reduction, allowing "chance" to play its part with the tiles and drawings.

the 1990s

The 1980s

The Reagan Suite was done as part of my post grad 1984 work at Emily Carr on Granville Island. I created a plaster mold and then altered some dozen castings. They were shown at The Montgomery Cafe on Pender St which was an artist exhibition venue as well as a popular 50's style cafe.

In 1988 safe sex practices as they relate to HIV/AIDS was still a tabu topic. I created Political Condom Boxesas political statements for politicians and celebrities to foster awareness.

The first selections are raku tile compositions, that came from a collaboration with Michael Morris in the mid 1980's. I made tiles, transfered the drawings from paper to clay- then took a plaster cast of each of the drawings, in order to reproduce each tile and create a ceramic "print".

Sally Michener gave me a small 3 piece mold of a pineapple, I had fun using them in one composition.
